Every network has people who only appear when they need something. They rarely get far. The most valued members are those who make it easy for others to succeed: they share context, make thoughtful introductions and answer questions generously.
Reciprocity does not have to be large. It might be a perspective on a market you know, a supplier recommendation or ten minutes reviewing someone’s pitch. What matters is that it is specific and relevant to the person receiving it.
When you do ask, say clearly what you need and what you can offer in return. Value moving in both directions turns an introduction into a relationship, and relationships are what turn a network into something more useful than a list of names.
