Preparing for a first investor conversation

Investors remember a clear problem, honest evidence and a defined next milestone.

A first conversation with an investor is rarely about closing a round. It is about whether they understand the problem you solve and believe you are the right people to solve it.

Prepare three things. First, the customer problem in plain words, with an example of someone who has it today. Second, your evidence: conversations, pilots, revenue or usage, presented honestly, including what you have not yet proven. Third, the next milestone and what it would take to reach it.

Leave room for their questions; the ones they ask tell you what they care about. Close by agreeing what happens next, whether that is a follow-up, material to send or a polite no. A clear answer, either way, saves both sides time.
